Life’s a trip. When “Toot It And Boot It” dropped, the label didn’t even mention Ty Dolla $ign was featured on the smash hit record (he says it was originally his record and he gave it to YG). Nowadays, Ty Dolla’s features carry more merit than most of the artists who ask him for a feature.
Earlier this year, VICE spoke to Ty$ where he opened up about his brother’s incarceration for murder (which Ty$ says he didn’t commit) and let him tell his story of how he became one of music’s biggest names today. He was one of the hottest free agents in music and was meeting with some hip-hop heavyweights before his current label, Wiz Kahlifa’s Taylor Gang, reached out to him via Twitter of all channels (what a world we live in). The rest is history, and the man many dub ‘The new Nate Dogg’ is still in the process of making even more history.
The brief eight minute piece can be viewed below and throughout, the multi-talented musician (he does it all when it comes to making music) speaks about his upbringing, his father’s ties to music, goes in depth about his younger bro TC’s legal woes and more.
